“DIRT IS NOT DIRTY”
– Walter Ritte

James Jack’s art projects place emphasis on social processes and question dominant political worldviews of power and ownership of land. For this talk, he will focus on Molokai Window (Honolulu Museum of Art, 2018) which explores the visceral relationship between the earth and the people on the island of Molokai by listening and engaging with their stories. Collaborating closely with the community this exhibit shows ways to protect land by cherishing our deep connections with it. Come listen to Jack speak more about Molokai Window and share his rich experiences working with island stories as active forms of resilience.
