Sunset House: The House as Language of Being
2010-2020
“This artwork starts with a shed infused with the history of a now defunct stone quarry that exists in the social landscape of the island of Shōdo. I felt memories, stories and hardships seeping out of the dirt walls, wood floor and tile roof that compose the house; but only through participatory systems would these feelings become visible. Each person who touches the structure changes it, therefore the existence of this house relies on the language of all those who contribute their hopes, wishes and difficulties to it”
