“Sea-centric SEA” Artist lecture

Sea-centric SEA

This talk starts with the sea. In contrast to land-centric histories of nation-states that dominate discussion of socio-political sphere today, this artist talk will open perspectives from the Ocean. What views are made possible from the perspective of the sea made visible in socially engaged art works? The life of the sea seen through human interactions illuminates maritime networks between diverse cultures. This talk will reconsider how Asia Pacific shifts if we put social and ecological relationships in the center. Artistic work as a form of social remembering can empower resilient narratives amidst colonial remnants in the region. Artworks by Jack work toward revitalizing connections within and in between communities through creative storytelling.
